Why do you love ping?

Ping moves at two thousand miles per hour compared to other sports. We have much less reaction time, much less time to react. There are so many possibilities with spin and placement. You can take the game in almost infinite directions. Every point is different, every touch of the ball is different. It’s a duel sport where you are really close to your opponent. It’s not like tennis where the opposing player is quite a bit further away; here you can almost hear the other person breathe. You have to be focused on yourself while also knowing how to read the opponent's emotions to use them to your advantage. You have to know how to direct the game and get into the other person's head to anticipate.

What type of player are you?

I really like the duel on the first three ball touches, so serve, return, and the first balls. Ping is actually a game of chess. I like being very aggressive in that area. Then in rallies, I’m still a fairly aggressive person. I like to take the initiative first, and if I don't have it, I like to win it back.

What are your passions outside of ping?

Well, this year I spent a lot of time doing manual work, renovations… It was a bit of a particular year. Otherwise, I like to travel. I also like taking time to do nothing, to disconnect from everything: doing nothing is a passion just like any other!
